Pune: In a shocking discovery, a human finger found in an ice cream in Malad has been traced back to a worker at Fortune Dairy's Indapur Taluka unit. The incident, which came to light on June 12, was confirmed through DNA testing. The Forensic Laboratory provided the Malad Police with conclusive evidence on Thursday, leading to immediate action against the dairy.
The worker, identified as Omkar Pote, suffered a severed finger while operating a crushing machine in the factory. Fortune Dairy was expected to properly dispose of all potentially contaminated ice cream following the accident. However, this protocol was not followed, resulting in the horrifying incident. Consequently, the police have ordered Fortune Dairy to halt production until further notice.
The incident came to public attention when a female doctor from Malad discovered the human finger in an ice cream from Yummo she ordered online. Alarmed by the discovery of a human finger, she promptly reported the matter to the local police station and filed a complaint against the company. During the investigation, it was revealed that Fortune Dairy manufactures ice cream for Yummo, which has a production unit in Pune's Indapur area.
The police collected DNA samples from the severed finger and the injured employee and sent them to the forensic science lab in Kalina. The forensic report confirmed a match between the DNA of the finger and Omkar Pote. Following this revelation, the employee admitted that his finger was indeed severed during production.
In response to these findings, the police have taken stringent action against the directors of Yummo Ice Cream Company and Fortune Dairy. The directors are now under investigation, and Fortune Dairy has been ordered to cease production immediately.
