Pune: Despite receiving approval to launch an electric vehicle charging station in the city last year, the project has yet to commence. Therefore, to encourage people to use electric vehicles, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has decided to speed up the establishment of EV charging stations at 22 locations in the PCMC limit. This will be done by the private agencies under the build, own, and operate (BOT) model.

This initiative was originally planned to start last year. However, due to some reasons, this decision could not be implemented. Now the municipal administration has decided to speed up this proposal.

The Municipal Corporation has scheduled the installation of EV charging stations at 22 locations in the city through various agencies over an eight-year period. These stations will offer electric vehicle charging services at reasonable rates.

Under this initiative, a space will be made available by the Municipal Corporation to the agencies setting up charging stations. The agency will then be required to procure electricity from the Maharashtra State Power Distribution Company, set up EV charging stations, and operate and maintain them at its own cost for eight years.

The agency is required to pay a portion of the revenue sharing at the ceiling rate to the municipal corporation. The agency that pays the highest revenue to the municipal corporation will eventually be awarded the contract. 22 locations in the city have been identified for charging electric vehicles.

The list of the areas that are selected for charging electric vehicles is as follows:

1. Precinct of PCMC's Main Administrative Building.
2. Near Citrus Hotel (Pimpri).
3. Durga Devi Hill (Nigdi).
4. Vahatuk Nagari.
5. Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium (Nehrunagar).
6. Nisarga Nirman Society Near Reliance Mart (Kokane Chowk, Pimple Saudagar).
7. RTO Office (Chikhali), Bird Valley (Sambhajinagar).
8. International Wrestling Complex (Bhosari).
9. Sewage Treatment Plant Centre (Chikhali).
10. Landewadi Nashik Road-Telco Road Junction.
11. Bhakti Shakti Bus Terminal (Nigdi).
12. Near Bajaj Auto.
13. Near the HA Company Subway.
14. Near the 4th entrance of Sant Tukaram Metro Station.
15. P. K. Chowk (Pimple Saudagar).
