HQ Southern Command Celebrates Its 130th Raising Day
Pune: Southern Command celebrated its 130th Raising Day on 01 Apr 2024. Lt General Ajai Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, General officer commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command has extended his heartfelt felicitations to all ranks, families and civil defence employees of the command on the occasion.
A wreath laying ceremony was held at the Southern Command war memorial on Monday to pay homage to the bravehearts. The commemorative wreath was laid by Lt General Manjit Kumar, AVSM, Chief of Staff, HQ Southern Command on behalf of all ranks of Pune military Station. The ceremony was attended by military personnel and veterans of Pune station.
Raised on 01 Apr 1895, Southern Command has withstood the test of time and has successfully participated in various pre and post-Independence operations including the amalgamation of Junagarh and Hyderabad in 1947-48, Liberation of Goa in 1961, Indo-Pakistan conflicts in 1965 & 1971, Operation PAWAN, Operation VIJAY and Operation PARAKRAM.
Southern Command with its vast history and glorious tradition of over 129 years is a live example of valour, Sacrifice and selfless service. Over the years, the Command has adapted itself rapidly to the changing operational milieu and has kept itself abreast of the contemporary technologies and best practices to further hone its core competencies.
Being geographically co-located with the industry hubs of the country and having large numbers of FFRs, Southern Command has made significant contribution in Nation’s thrust in being self sufficient in Defence manufacturing. It is also the “Hub of Diplomacy” because of numerous Foreign exercises happening round the year. Recently it got its first Apache Squadron at Jodhpur that has potential to increase the war potential of the Indian Army and pave the path for future inductions.
While conveying his compliments on the occasion, the Army Commander exhorted all citizens and soldiers to work together and contribute significantly towards Nation Building.
