Pune: Two days ago, four minor girls drowned in the pit dug for the widening of the Katraj-Kondhwa road, resulting in the death of one minor girl in it. After that, the Kondhwa police acted swiftly in the case, registering a case against the concerned contractor in this matter.

In this regard, Jagdish Chhagan Shilawat (age 35), living behind Kesar Lodge in an open space near Mahakali Temple, Katraj-Kondhwa Road, has filed a complaint at Kondhwa Police Station. The Shilawat family works as workers for sharpening knives and iron weapons and lives in a hut in the open space on Katraj-Kondhwa road.

On June 8, four minor girls, Sargam Jagdish Shilawat, Janubai Ramesh Shilawat, Tejal Jagdish Shilawat, and Muskan Deva Shilawat, went to wash their clothes in the stagnant water of the pit around eleven in the morning. At that time, Muskan lost her balance and slipped in the water in the pit. In an attempt to save her, the remaining girls entered the water. After learning about the incident, local citizens rescued all the girls outside the water. But Muskan lost her life after drowning in the water.

In this regard, Kondhwa police initiated an investigation and found that a contractor had dug that pit for the widening of the road. The investigation revealed that the accident occurred due to a lack of safety measures. After that, the police registered a case of culpable homicide against the contractor. Crime Branch Police Inspector Man Singh Patil is investigating the case.
