Bureau Of Indian Standards (BIS), Pune Branch Celebrates ‘World Standards Day 2024’ & ‘Manak Mahotsav’
Pune : The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Pune, successfully celebrated ‘Manak Mahotsav’ on the occasion of World Standards Day 2024 on 14th October at Hinjawadi, Pune. The event revolved around this year's global theme, SDG-9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, highlighting the importance of standards in promoting sustainable development.
S.D. Rane, Scientist-E and Director, BIS Pune, welcomed all participants and distinguished guests, setting the tone for an insightful and enriching program.
The event was graced by Reji Mathai, Director of the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, Mathai highlighted the sustainability initiatives in the automotive sector, focusing on new emission norms and the use of biofuels as key measures to address environmental concerns. He also acknowledged BIS's ongoing work in the field of automotive standardization, which plays a crucial role in advancing sustainability in the industry.
Atul Gadgil, Director (Works) of Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd, served as the Guest of Honour. Through a detailed presentation, he underscored the significance of standards in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG-9. Shri Gadgil also showcased how Pune Metro has embraced sustainability practices in its operations, setting an example for other infrastructure projects.
The program featured technical sessions where experts from industry and academia discussed how the adoption of standards can accelerate the attainment of SDG-9. These sessions provided valuable insights into the role of innovation and infrastructure in promoting sustainable and resilient industrial growth.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all the distinguished guests, speakers, and participants for making the celebration a resounding success, stated a press release.
