Pune: A bridge pillar connecting Pune and Ahmednagar on the Bhima River collapsed on Monday morning. The incident took place on a river between Daund-Gar villages, connecting Pune with Ahmedngar.

Earlier, it was said that the bridge might have collapsed because of heavy rainfall in the area for the last few days. However, villagers complained that the bridge was built with inferior quality and that poor materials had been used in it. Fortunately, no fatality was reported in the incident.

Local residents accused that substandard materials were used in the construction of this bridge pillar. In this regard, local villagers have multiple times complained to the Daund Construction Department. However, the villagers argued that the department continued the work, ignoring their suggestions. As a result of that, a massive pillar on the Bhima River fell apart on Monday morning.

A video regarding it circulates on social media, in which the bridge is seen collapsing in the river basin. It has been learned that this bridge was constructed by spending 21 crore rupees. The administration and police officials are investigating the matter further.
