Pune, August 8, 2024:As India was just recovering from the shock of Vinesh Phogat's disqualification news from the final of the Olympic Wrestling 50 kg category after she found a little more weight yesterday morning, there is one more bad news for India. After being disqualified from the Paris Olympic 2024, Vinesh today announced her retirement from wrestling.

She announced her retirement by writing on 'X'. In her X post, referring to her mother, Vinesh said, "Ma, wrestling has won; I have lost. Please forgive me, your dreams, and my courage, everything is broken. I don't have any more strength now. Goodbye wrestling 2001-2024. I shall be indebted to you all. Forgive (me)."

Vinesh was disqualified yesterday after she found more than the required 50 kg category on the day of the final. After this decision, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the entire country expressed regret over the disqualification, emphasising the necessity of adhering to the rules. The IOA also lodged a strong protest and filed an appeal for reconsideration, highlighting the emotional and physical toll on Phogat and her team.

Meanwhile, yesterday, Vinesh Phogat filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after being disqualified from the final match of the 50 kg category at the Paris Olympics. She demanded to cancel the gold medal match, which was thwarted by the CAS. However, the hearing on her demand for a joint silver medal will take place today.

Her retirement news has sparked a widespread debate in the country, and lots of people are taking to social media, accusing the system for this situation. By holding the system responsible for this, the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor, wrote to the X in Hindi, "This girl is fed up of this system.....This girl is tired of fighting."

Similarly, another wrestling champion, Bajrang Punia, also wrote on X, "Vinesh aap haari nahi hai, haraya gaya hai (Vinesh, you haven't lost, you have been defeated)."
